Getting To Moreton Island

Moreton Island is 40 km offshore from Brisbane. The island can be reached by ferry, barge or boat. Barges and ferries for vehicles and passengers run daily. If you are not taking a vehicle, choose your island destination point and book the ferry or barge from the corresponding departure point. Extra services operate in school holidays and at long weekends. It is advisable to book ahead.

Tangalooma Island Resort Ferry Launches - Brisbane to Moreton Island

For all house guests staying in Tangalooma resort-managed accommodation the launch fare includes luggage porters to and from your accommodation within the resort. Passenger ferry services depart from Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba, Brisbane a& arrive at the Tangalooma Jetty on Moreton Island. Cruise Ships

Cruise ships are regular visitors to Tangalooma at Moreton Island. Ships will dock in Moreton Bay for the day, whilst guests are transferred to Tangalooma Island Resort to enjoy the resort bars, restaurants, tours, 4WD bus tours, Wild Dolphin Feeding, Activities, Wildlife experiences, pools &the famous golden sands of the beach in front of the resort. Passengers return to the ship at the end of the day before cruising to their next destination.

Private boat

Moreton Island is in exposed waters. It is possible to travel in your own vessel, although there are no public mooring available at Moreton Island. Large seas can be experienced between Moreton Island and the mainland, so consider your experience and the suitability of your vessel, and take into account currents and predicted weather and sea conditions when planning your trip. Weather forecasts are available from the Bureau of Meteorology .

There is a some what proetected area to anchor in between the Tangalooma Wrecks and the beach. Vessels, anchors and ropes should not restrict the safe access of the beach between the high and low water mark on Moreton Island beaches

Fly

Moreton is just 15 minutes from Brisbane Airport and 30 minutes from both the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. There are two privately owned airstrips on the Island, one at Kooringal and the other just south of Cowan Cowan.
